Life gets twisted sometimes and so can a Leverlock cable. Here’s how to fix it.

BASIC USE

3 Ways to Fix a Stuck Leverlock® Adjustable Paddle handle:

DON’T: Use petroleum-based lubricants including WD-40 or sunscreen to resolve the sticking situation. If you have already, you need to replace rubber or it will grow larger and stick to the inside of shaft. You can order a new rubber here

DO: Try the following methods:

#1: The Twist

Method: Fix the blade end of the paddle securely and carefully in place (e.g. have friend hold onto the blade, stick it in between deck boards, secure in the hinge side of an open door, etc.). Open the lever and gently twist the handle back and forth until you can begin pulling upward.

#2: The Wash

Method: Make a solution of one pint of water mixed with one squirt of dishwashing soap (e.g. Dawn). Open the lever and pour the solution down the lever cavity. Gently twist the handle back and forth until you can begin pulling upward.

#3: The Freeze

Method: Wrap an ice pack around the section of the paddle shaft where the rubber plug end of Leverlock® Adjustable handle is stuck (about 22” down the shaft from the top of the handle if the handle is not extended). Keep the ice pack on the shaft for 10 minutes. Gently twist the handle back and forth until you can begin pulling upward.

If the above methods don’t work, set the paddle upright and let sit in a cool environment. Repeat methods as directed.

When the paddle is unstuck: Clean inside of paddle shaft and outside of Leverlock® Adjustable handle with warm soapy water or denatured alcohol. Inspect rubber and replace if showing signs of expansion or wear.

Make sure to always rinse the LL unit after use, especially if you are storing it for a long period of time or you live in a marine environment.  If in doubt, you can always store it with the lever open to make sure the rubber won’t stick to the inner shaft surface.
